These days, billboards and magazine advertisements glorifying smoking no longer peak the interest of wandering eyes and they don’t seem to be as noticeable as they had been during the 1920’s. Prior to that time, Hollywood beautified images of famous women smoking cigarettes on film, billboards and in several magazines. Although the idea of women smoking in society was deemed as being offensive at the time, cigarettes were a marketable product, which nonetheless were in vogue. We’ve all been informed of the risks and dangers that smoking presents so with this in mind, why do women smoke?
Although many women enjoy smoking socially, they often ignore the dangers they face as women and as human beings. Women may choose to drink and smoke in different social settings, including a nightclub, bar and dance club. Because of the dangers that smoking causes to the women smoking and innocent bystanders receiving second-hand smoke, restaurants and other establishments alike have decided to prohibit smoking altogether. Women seem to have more of a problem with smoking because they are now expected to work and assume their role as a wife and mother, so stress is fundamentally the reason we find more women smoking.
Many of us may not cope or respond very well with changes that occur throughout our lives, while the remainder of us doesn’t let stress discourage us from achieving success. Quite a few of women who are smokers look forward to their cigarette breaks to “take a break†from the daily conundrums they encounter in life.
Further, we may notice that many women are smoking more than men because it’s been said that smoking helps to promote a means of weight loss and weight management. Society nowadays places a great deal of emphasis on how women are supposed to look and the majority of women who are slender are deemed to be the most attractive. Smoking decreases hunger because the sensations within the taste buds and nasal cavity over time are greatly reduced.
Still there are many of us who may reach for another cigarette to attempt to get rid of feelings of emptiness and boredom. Though many of us look forward to having social exchanges with other people, there are some women who aren’t as outgoing and look to smoke a cigarette in an effort to avoid being social. Since quite a few of us have an aversion to cigarette smoke, smoking offers women some form of relief from social activities. Somehow smoking a cigarette affords relief from social activities and the cigarette replaces the need for friendship for those who are extremely shy.
